NUDEIL

Period: April 2020 – Ongoing

Country: Northern Uganda

Client: United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through Green Powered Technology (GPTech)

Funding: United States Agency for International Development (USAID)

Project

The USAID-financed NUDEIL program supports revitalization, peace, and stability in Northen Uganda after a 20+ year armed conflict led by the Lord’s Resistance Army. NUDEIL is funded by USAID through a government-to-government (G2G) partnership with the Government of Uganda (GOU) that empowers and enables the Ministry of Local Government (MoLG) and relevant district local governments (DLGs) to independently implement small-scale infrastructure projects, with support and oversight from USAID. NUDEIL aims to create livelihood opportunities, increase government-provided basic services to Northen Ugandans, and to lay the foundations for long term sustained development. NUDEIL has two major objectives, which are addressed in partnership with the GOU, and are intended to improve quality of life for conflict-affected populations:

The objectives of the project are to:

  1. To inject capital into recovering rural communities of Northern Uganda through construction and rehabilitation, using labour-intensive methods to the maximum extent possible; and
  2. To improve the district governments’ capability to deliver services as a means to increase citizen confidence in their government.

Under NUDEIL, USAID funds DLGs to implement small-scale infrastructure, where MBW Consulting Ltd partnered with Green Powered Technology as the owner’s engineer, providing monitoring and oversight services to ensure that infrastructure investments under NUDEIL are implemented with credible quality control mechanisms.
