The project was located in the South Western part of Uganda in the Albertine Graben, covering the districts of Hoima, Kikube, and Buliisa. The primary objective of this project was to improve connectivity and access within and to the Albertine Region, fostering economic growth that is not solely reliant on oil but also includes agriculture, fishing, commerce, and tourism. Additionally, the project aimed to enhance the availability of a skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands and capitalizing on emerging employment opportunities in the region.
The project focused on local economic infrastructure, including the design and construction of urban and peri-urban markets in selected areas, fish landing sites, a slaughterhouse, and fish cages. It also involved the design and rehabilitation of selected priority district feeder roads and the upgrading of urban roads from gravel to bitumen standards. This included the installation of drainage structures and improvements to safety inventory. The specific project components included:
